The "Sancarlone", formally known as the Colossus of San Carlo Borromeo, is a monumental statue located in the city of Arona, on the western shore of Lake Maggiore, in northern Italy. This impressive statue depicts San Carlo Borromeo, an important 16th century Catholic saint originally from Arona. The work is approximately 35 meters high and is located on a hill called“La Rocca di Arona,”from which it offers a spectacular panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The Sancarlone is one of the largest statues in the world and represents an icon of Arona and a much appreciated tourist destination.
