The Rocca Borromea of Angera is the castle par excellence on Lake Maggiorehis formidable fortified construction is located in the southern area of the lake, precisely located on the limestone hill in the city of Angeraon the Lombard shore. The fortress belongs to the Borromeo family and its construction dates back to the 14th century. Together with the Rocca di Arona they were the main control points of the southern lake regarding the traffic that took place on the lake. Its predominant position also ensured a view of the Alps, guaranteeing control of any enemy invasions from beyond the Alps. The interior of the fortress can currently be visited, including the famous "Hall of Justice"one of the oldest and most important examples of painting from the Western Middle Ages. The Rocca di Angera is also home to the Museum of Antique Dolls and Toys.
